Filling up on FAFSA Facts

Rochester has had consistent increases in the number and percentage of city students filling out their FAFSA forms since the launch of FAFSA Fest in 2015. During the 2016-17 school year, 55% of seniors completed the FAFSA before the end of June. Between 2016 and 2017, the number of students filling out FAFSA forms by the end of March increased 30 percent.

As of February 16th, 28% of Rochester city and charter school seniors have completed FAFSAs. Percentage wise, this is down 7% when compared with the completion rate last year.

Completion rates are calculated using submission data from the US Department of Education and the number of seniors in each class as reported on September 1- not necessarily the number of seniors on track to graduate or the number of seniors enrolled by mid-winter.

Rochester College Access Network, a community initiative lead by Rochester Education Foundation, will present awards in June to the high school with the highest FAFSA filing rate, and the high school with the best improvement in FAFSA filing rate from the 2016-2017 school year to the 2017-2018 school year. The same school may not win both categories. The winners will be determined using filings by the end of March 2018.
